Osteopathy - Our process

with Lisa Parke

At your first appointment your Osteopath will begin by gathering details about your symptoms, general health and medical history. They will then carry out physical examinations including any necessary medical tests, observe your posture and observe simple movements to determine how your body is functioning. The osteopathic consultation may include orthopaedic, neurological and other system examinations to help assessment and diagnosis, ensuring your suitability for osteopathic treatment. If necessary, your osteopath may refer for other tests, such as X-rays, scans or blood tests, or to other health care providers.

Children and young people should be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

When we examine you it will most likely be necessary for you to undress down to underwear so we can look and learn how your body works. The Osteopath will leave the room while you are changing so you can bring shorts to change into if you would feel more comfortable.

Once a diagnosis has been reached, a treatment plan to re-establish the normal balance and function of your body will be explained to you. Depending on the diagnosis, this will take the form of manipulative techniques, soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, exercise prescription, or cranial techniques.

We allocate up to 60 minutes for your initial appointment, then 40 minutes for subsequent appointments if required.

Holy Cow & Cat Yoga

with Lilina Licata

Sundays 8.30am – 10am

There’s no better way to start your Sunday. A whole body vinyasa sequence, with lots of modifications to suit every level of experience, is followed with a short guided meditation to ensure you leave the class feeling fully relaxed and ready to take on the day with a spring in your step.

Mondays 6.30pm – 8pm

Strength, flexibility and concentration are improved during this dynamic vinyasa flow.  Mindfulness and breath work are integral to this class helping to melt away the build up of daily stress and strain.  Modifications are offered throughout and like all classes, ends with a short guided mediation ensuring you leave feeling a whole lot better.

Wednesdays 6.30pm – 8pm

By warming and preparing the body mindfully for a whole body vinyasa class, this practice combines a mix of static held poses to improve strength as well as some dynamic sequences to challenge our focus.  To ensure you leave feeling fully relaxed and recharged a short meditation closes the practice.

Personalised Recovery

Here at Osney Osteopaths we know that there is no one approach for everyone, therefore we tailor our treatment and management plan to each individual.  Some people and some injuries may only require a couple of treatments, whereas others may need a longer-term treatment plan.  Some injuries and some people may require more of a manual therapy focus, whereas others require a workplace assessment or a strength and conditioning approach.  Some may require all of these approaches.

At Osney Osteopaths we will listen, gain an understanding of what your musculoskeletal issue is, have you identify with some short and long term goals and then look to provide you with some options moving forwards with regards to treatment and management.  In some cases we may refer you to another practitioner if we feel this will assist you in the treatment and management of your complaint.  We are very much focused on a consultative approach and are open and transparent in our communication and plan so that we can work together with you to help get you out of pain or move towards a more specific goal.

VIDEO CONSULTATIONS DURING COVID 19 CLINIC CLOSURE

Osney Osteopaths have launched a new ‘TeleHealth’ Service. The clinic may be temporarily closed but you can still access help and advice from home. This service will enable new and current patients to book a video consultation. With the right approach, an online consultation can be a great opportunity to work collaboratively with you, hear your story and plan an effective treatment plan together.

What can we do?

We take a full case history of the presenting condition, cover your past medical history and ask about your pain and its behaviour.
We are able to examine you by observing posture and asking you to perform simple movements, exactly as we would in the clinic treatment room. Treatment can include advice on modification of certain activities, and progressive rehab exercises.
